Frankenstein Analysis

Dogma Regular

This shot is right at the start of Frankenstein. this man comes from behind the curtain and talks as if he is talking to an audience. he is wearing a tuxedo which shows us that he is upper class. This medium long shot allows us as an audience to recognize the man and get an idea of the location. The black and white effect shows us as an audience that this film is quite old. but the colour scheme adds to the genre and gives us a slight mysterious vibe about the film.

In this shot, it shows the film beginning and tells the audience the title. it shows who its presented by and the producer. the hands in the background intrigue the audience as to what will happen in the film. Also in this scene, music begins which is rather spooky. Fits well with the genre.

This shot is the first scene in frankenstein. its showing a woman and a little boy crying at a burial. This is a medium close up. they have used this shot so the audience can see the facial expressions on the characters faces and understand why they are crying as they are in a graveyard. the theme of black and white works well in this  scene because it fits the emotional mood which is in the scene.

This is a close up shot of frankenstein and his side kick. they are currently hiding behind a metal fence from the people at the funeral. the fact that they are hiding allows the audience to understand that they must be doing something wrong because they are hiding. the lighting is emphasising their facial expressions.

This shot is a medium shot of a skeleton. this shot also adds to the fact that this scene is located in a graveyard, so it gives the audience an idea that something spooky could happen.
This is a wide angle shot. this is allowing the audience to get a full description of what is happening in this scene. the dark but light scene is interesting as it still gives off a scary spooky feel but the light is directed onto the characters face to let us see what they're doing. Also the skeleton and gravestone in the background lets us see that they are still in the graveyard.

This is a close up of frankenstein. the close up shot allows us as an audience to see his facial expression. he looks suspicuous and he knows he is doing something wrong but doesnt care. he s currently hiding behind the coffin, which shows us that they both did actually dig it up and are ready to take it.

This long shot is showing us that Frankenstein and the other guy are actually taking the coffin. at this point we dont know where they are taking it but the fact that they have taken a coffin is freaking us as an audience out as it is. this scene makes us want to watch more because we want to know where they are taking the coffin and what they are doing with it.
